Phase I feasibility studies offer startups up to $100,000 of funding over 6 months, depending on the scientific and technical merit of the offer, its commercial potential, and its relevance to NIST's requirements and current research priorities. At the successful completion of the Phase 1 period, the company is eligible to proceed with a Phase II proposal evaluation.
Phase II is the prototype development phase from the completed Phase I R&D that exhibits potential for commercial application with awards for 2 years for up to $400,000. Phase II are chosen as a result of competitive evaluations and are based on the results of Phase I, the scientific and technical merit of the Phase II proposal, and the commercial potential of the proposed Phase II project.
