The Department of Defense is funding startups to build and implement technologies that have a potential use-case within the military. The SBIR/STTR program at the DoD is run through its various components such as Navy, Air Force, USSOCOM, Defense Health Agency, Defense Logistics Agency, Missile Defense Agency etc. The program is currently soliciting Phase 1 (for up to $250K) and Direct-to-Phase 2 (for up to $1.7M) proposals for a wide range of topics that span multiple technology areas.
The DoD has two solicitations, one for SBIR (for all startups), and the other for STTR (for startups that specifically collaborate with university professors/researchers). Within these solicitations, there are Phase 1 (for feasibility work) as well as Direct-to-Phase 2 topics (for prototype field-testing) from the several participating DoD components.
